Due to the reduction in the incidence of coronavirus, almost twice as many people will go home this Eid as last year. As a result, the Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity fears that the capital Dhaka may suffer from unbearable traffic congestion from the next 25th of Ramadan to Eid day.

Besides, the organization has demanded to take effective steps to lessen the unbearable traffic jam, harassment of passengers on the way, fare anarchy, and road accidents during the Eid Journey.

The organization's secretary-general Mohammad Mozammel Haque Chowdhury made the remarks at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity in the capital's Segunbagicha on Sunday (April 17th) morning demanding an end to "unbearable traffic jams, harassment of passengers on the way, anarchy and road accidents".

He said that due to the reduction in the incidence of coronavirus, almost twice as many people will go home this Eid. More than one crore people will travel from Dhaka to different districts of the country during this time. In addition, about five crores more people would travel from one district to another. Due to this, from April 20 to May 10, Eid Bazar, traveling to village home for various reasons, including the country's various types of transport may have an additional 600 million trips for passengers.

This requires extra security, maximum caution, and maximum use of every vehicle on all roads. But due to traffic congestion and mismanagement, proper use of public transport could not be ensured, he added.

In a written statement at the press conference, it was said that the people of the capital will suffer the most due to traffic jams during this year's Eid Journey. Therefore, from this moment onwards, the organization demanded from the concerned people of the government to free the sidewalks, restricted the street hawkers, and illegal parking on all the roads in the capital.
