Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has asked members of law enforcement agencies to remain alert ahead of and during the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr to prevent crimes, reports BSS.

He gave the instructions at a monthly crime review meeting for the month of March 2022 at the DMP headquarters in Dhaka on Tuesday.

"Patrol police have to be more vigilant and members of these gangs should be arrested by forming special teams," he said.

Shafiqul said that criminals should be identified, arrested and brought under the law to prevent crime, adding, "Crime could not be prevented only by patrolling."

Addressing the traffic division, the commissioner said, "Traffic congestion has increased due to Eid. For this, every entrance point of Dhaka city should be kept normal by coordinating with the police of the surrounding districts."

He said before Eid many city dwellers will go to their villages to celebrate the festival with their dear ones.

"During the period, their homes remain vacant. We need to talk to security guards of the house and take necessary measures to prevent any untoward incident at this time," the DMP chief said.
