Three kids are still missing after a speedboat capsized near
Sandwip's Guptachhara Ghat, the upazila administration said at noon on
Wednesday (April 20). However, 18 people have been rescued alive in this
incident.
Earlier, the local administration had said that the body of
a child had been recovered in the incident.
Sandwip Upazila Nirbahi Officer Samrat Khisa said, "We rushed
to the ghat as soon as we got the news of the incident. The body of a child has
been recovered from the capsized speedboat. We also learned that the three kids
are still missing. However, the hopeful news is that other passengers were
rescued immediately after the accident. "
"We are at the scene," said Nayan Sheel, assistant
director of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) in
Chittagong. Most of the passengers on the speedboat were rescued. However, we
have learned that three kids are missing.
Incidentally, a speedboat with 22 passengers capsized at
Guptachhara Ghat on the Sandwip waterway at around 10:30 am on Wednesday when a
strong wind blew and high tide on the sea. The body of a child has been
recovered in this incident.
