Police have identified three people for stabbing courier
service worker Nahid Hossain and shopkeeper Mohammad Mursalin during a clash in
the capital's New Market. Nahid was hacked to death by a Dhaka College student named
Rabbi. He is a student of the residential hall of Dhaka College.
During the clash, Nahid was hacked by two people and Mursalin by one. Attempts are being made to arrest them. Furthermore, two more people have been identified among those seen on the streets last Tuesday (April 19) with sharp weapons. They are also students of Dhaka College and are associated with the politics of the Chhatra League.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) police, the
investigating agency in the case, said this on Saturday (April 23).
According to DB police, the video, which was spread on
social media Facebook, and various media outlets, showed Nahid being hacked with
a sharp weapon by several people wearing helmets and without helmets. A picture
of one of them has been viral in the media. The identity of the person whose
picture has appeared on social media has not been confirmed yet. But two
are suspected, one of whom may be the person with a sharp weapon.
According to investigators, Nahid, who was killed from 11
a.m. to noon on Tuesday, was involved in clashes on behalf of traders and
employees. With a large umbrella in his hand, he was seen right in front of the
clash for at least two hours. At one stage of the chase and counter chase with
the students, Nahid fell on the road after being hit by a brick. Then some
young men wearing helmets attacked him.
Investigators said Nahid was beaten by two people in a row
that day. The most violent of these identified as Rabbi. The Rabbi's
previous attacker has also been identified.
Shopkeeper Mursalin died at the hospital the day after
Nahid's murder. Mursalin was also hacked by a student of Dhaka College.
Mursalin's killer has also been identified. Investigators are keeping an eye on
them.
According to the DB, a nationwide operation has already been
launched to nab them. Surveillance has also been stepped up in border areas.
They may be arrested soon.
Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) Additional
Commissioner of Police AKM Hafeez Akhter said two cases have been registered in
connection with the incident. We are working on this. All video footage is
being analyzed. Some have also been identified.
