The High Court (HC) on Sunday issued a rule asking authorities concerned to explain in a week as to why it shall not declare illegal the inertia of the concerned in closing 99 illegal brick kilns under nine Upazilas of Brahmanbaria district, reports BSS.

High Court division bench comprising Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim issued the rule.

"The kilns are being operated by violating the existing law. After publishing a report in English daily regarding the issue, notices were sent to the authorities concerned... As they didn't respond to the notices, a writ petition was filed in the public interest," Lawyer of the Supreme Court Advocate AQM Sohel Rana told BSS.

"Secretary to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, director general and deputy director of Department of Environment and deputy commissioner (DC) and superintendent of police (SP) of Brahmanbaria were made respondent to the petition," the writ petitioner added.
