A Dhaka court has granted two-day remand to five students of
Dhaka College in connection with the murder of delivery man Nahid in a clash
between traders and students at New Market in the capital.
The accused were produced before the Dhaka Metropolitan
Magistrate's Court on Thursday (April 28). Each of them was asked to remand for
seven days for proper investigation of the case. In view of the plea, Dhaka
Metropolitan Magistrate Shanta Akhter granted remand to each of them for two
days.
The accused are Abdul Qayyum and Palash of Accounting
Science, Faisal of Bangla Department, Junaid Islam of History Department and
Irfan of Social Science of Dhaka College.
Police conducted raids in and outside the capital and
arrested the accused.
Additional Commissioner AKM Hafeez Akhter said this at a
press conference at DMP's media center on Minto Road in the capital.
He said, all the five arrested are students of Dhaka
College. Helmets were recovered from them during the arrest.
Asked if all the detainees were BCL activists, Hafiz Akhter
said, the detainees told us during interrogation that there is no BCL committee
in Dhaka College at present." A large number of students were involved in
the clashes. It cannot be said about any single party or party. '
However, while explaining about the helmet force, Hafiz
Akhtar said, "They said that many of the students use motorcycles. They
were in the front of the clashed wearing these helmets. '
"We want to identify those who were around at the time
of the incident and take legal action," he said. They have been brought
under arrest. Later, during their interrogation, it will be possible to know
about those involved in this incident. Two murder cases are under
investigation. It will be possible to give more details after the
investigation.
