As the coronavirus situation improves, the
country's central jails are preparing for a large-scale Eid congregation.
Multiple sources have confirmed this.
Senior Jail Superintendent of Dhaka Central Jail Subhash
Chandra Ghosh said that Eid Jamaat has been held inside the Central Jail for
the last two years. This time, as the coronavirus infection is under control,
Eid Jamaat is being arranged in the field inside the jail.
It is learned that relatives of the prisoners have already
started sending new clothes to the jail to celebrate Eid. Like every year, the
jail authorities will organize a special meal for the inmates three times on
Eid day. However, it has not been decided whether the relatives will be able to
send home-made food.
Note that home-cooked food could be sent on the day of Eid
before the Coronavirus pandemic.
According to jail sources, there are about 10,000 inmates in
Dhaka Central Jail at present. On the day of Eid, they will have Payeshand Puffed
Rice in the morning, Pilau-Roast in the afternoon, and at night Polao-Meat,
Salad, Betel Nut, and Cold Drink. On this day, the prisoners will be able to
meet their relatives.
Gias Uddin, senior jail superintendent of Chittagong Central
Jail, said that Eid Jamaat will be held at Chittagong Central Jail like the old
times. However, this time the congregation will be organized on a larger scale
than in the last two years. High-quality food will be served on this day. There is an
additional allocation of tk 150 per day for Eid meals along with daily meals
for each prisoner.
When the authorities of all the central jails of the
country including Rangpur and Sylhet were contacted, they said that due to the
good situation in Coronavirus, a large-scale Eid Jamaat will be organized
inside the prisons this time.
