Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud has said it is not appropriate to suspend anyone on the instruction of the wife of a minister, reports media.

“I don't think that the minister (railways minister) lied. I don't know all relatives of my wife and none of us knows all of our all relatives. I also think that it is not appropriate to suspend anyone on the instruction of the wife of a  minister,” the minister told reporters prior to addressing a function in observance of the International Mother's Day in the city's CIRDUP auditorium.

TTE Shafiqul Islam, who works at Bangladesh Railway’s Pakshi Division, was suspended on Friday, a day after he fined three individuals for travelling in an air-conditioned coach without tickets claiming that they were relatives of the Railways minister.

Regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections, Hasan Mahmud said Awami League wants to join the elections with participation of all political parties.

Regarding Reporters Without Borders-RSF report on Press Freedom Index, the minister said, “RSF itself has proved that their report is malicious by placing Bangladesh’s position behind Afghanistan in Press Freedom Index.”
