A protest rally was held in Jhenaidah municipality after miscreants
yesterday attacked business establishments and the house of independent mayoral
candidate Quayum Shahriar Zahedee Hijol.
The protest rally was held at the city's Payra Chattar on
Monday (May 16) morning.
Earlier, a peace procession started from the old jail turn of the city and ended at the Payra Chattar. Thousands of people including men and women joined the procession.
The procession was led by Abu Shahriar Zahedee Pipul, son of
late language movement activist Zahed Hossain Musa Mia and brother of mayoral
candidate Quayum Shahriar Zahedee Hijol.
Abu Shahriar Zahedee Pipul was speaking at the rally after
the procession.
Shahriar Jahedi Pipul said, "We have faith in the
administration. We do not want disorder under any circumstances. Ordinary
people in Jhenaidah have seen who attacked. We want justice."
"The people of Jhenaidah are by our side, he added. Our family is by our side. My brother mayoral candidate Hijol could not come today as he was ill."

Rana said a case has been filed in the police station accusing 15/16 more
unidentified persons by mentioning the names of seven people in the incident.
Case No. 29. Yunus Ali, the manager of Zahedee Foundation, filed the case as a
plaintiff.
He further added that if anyone tries to create turmoil
ahead of the election, will be spared.
Earlier on Sunday (May 15) evening, a group of miscreants
attacked, vandalized and looted the ancestral house of late language movement
activist Zahed Hossain Musa Mia and the business establishments of his sons.
