Three
people were killed when a pick-up van collided with a train at an unprotected
level crossing in Gazipur's Kaliganj Upazila. The accident took place at around
10:30 am on Saturday (May 21) in Nolchhata area near Arikhola railway station
of the Upazila.
The
deceased were all pick-up riders. However, their identities were not immediately
known.
Confirming
the matter, Master of Arikhola Railway Station Kamrul Islam said that the Egarosindur
Express train was going to Dhaka from Kishoreganj. On the way, the train
collided head-on with a pick-up van coming from Nagori at an unsafe level crossing
in Nolchhata area.
He
said the pick-up van was hit by the train and three people died on the spot.
After
the accident, the train service on the Nagori-Nolchhata line was suspended for
about an hour and it became normal again, said Kamrul.
