SI Killed, 8 Policemen Injured in Moulovibazar Road Accident

A police sub-inspector was killed and eight others injured in a road accident at Moinar Dokan area of Rajnagar Upazila of the district on early Saturday, reports BSS.

The deceased is SI Samiran Chandra Das, a resident of Panchpariya village under Hobiganj sadar.

According to police and local sources, the police van carrying the policemen lost control over the steering and collided with a roadside tree on Sylhet-Moulovibazar Regional Highway at Moinar Dokan area at about 5:00 am while returning to the police station after nabbing three accused persons leaving nine people injured.

Police and Fire Service team rescued the injured and took them to the Moulovibazar 250-bedded General Hospital where the on-duty physician declared SI Samiran dead.

The injured were SI Suleman, SI Shawkat Masud Bhuiyan, SI Jahangir, Constable Abdul Aziz, and Masuk Mia, and accused Kant Santal, Lakshan Santal, and Kurmi Moina.

Three seriously injured police SI, a constable, and an accused were shifted to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital for better treatment.

Superintendent of Police of the district Mohammad Zakaria went to the hospital to see the injured police personnel.
