Independent
mayoral candidate Quayum Shahriar Zahedee Hijol wants to make Jhenaidah a
state-of-the-art municipality.
"We
dream of a model and exceptional municipality in Jhenaidah," he said. "Where
there will be improved roads, drains. Improved road lights will light up at
night. The service will be delivered door to door. People will enjoy the most
modern municipal facilities without any hassle."
Hijol made
the remarks while inaugurating the election office adjacent to Castle Bridge at
Arappur in Jhenaidah Sadar on Sunday night (May 22). The people present at the
time applauded and praised Hijol.
Independent
mayoral candidate Hijol is the son of Musa Mia, a language movement activist, and
the younger brother of Nasser Shahrear Zahedee, head of Radiant
Pharmaceuticals, a well-known businessman. Hijol is a member of Zahedee Foundation,
one of the most reputed organizations in the country.
Polls
are going to be held in the municipality on June 15. So far, four candidates
have survived the scrutiny of the mayoral election by the Election Commission.
Among them are Abdul Khaleq, a candidate for the boat symbol, and Quayum
Shahriar Zahedee Hijla, an independent mayoral candidate. The other two
candidates are rebel candidates of the Awami League.
