Bus crashes into tree || Photo: Collected
Ten passengers
were killed when a Jamuna Line bus lost control and hit a tree at
Wazirpur in Barisal. Another 18 passengers were injured.
The accident took
place at Bamrail of Uzirpur Upazila on the Barisal-Dhaka highway around 5:30 am
on Sunday (May 29).
Officer-in-charge
(OC) of Wazirpur Police Station Ali Arshad confirmed the matter.
He said the bus was
going from Dhaka to Bhandaria. On the way, he reached Bamrail in Uzirpur
Upazila of Barishal district and lost control and hit a tree. So far, the
bodies of eight people have been exhumed. The injured have been shifted to
Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. The death toll could rise further.
Unit Leader of
Barisal Fire Service Mohammad Jahangir said that after receiving the news of
the accident, two units of the fire service at Gournadi and Wazirpur reached
the spot and started the rescue operation. So far eight bodies have been
recovered. The bus crashed into a tree. Fire service personnel cut the bus and
rescued the passengers and sent them to the hospital.
