Kaniz Fatema Promoted to Rank of Major

Captain Kaniz Fatima, who did not give up in the battle of life, has been promoted to the rank of Major. 

Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed promoted her to the rank of Major today in the presence of all the formation commanders the Army Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment, said a press release.

It is said that the paralyzed Kaniz Fatema is a role model not only for the Bangladesh Army, but also for the women community in the whole country and in the international arena.

On September 17, 2012, while training at the Bangladesh Military Academy, the officer of the army broke his spinal cord in an accident.

According to ISPR, Kaniz Fatema joined the Bangladesh Army in 2011 with a dream of serving the country. However, in the context of the accident, it was not possible for her to continue the strict and orderly normal activities of the army.

But this fearless woman was determined to work for the protection of the country's interests without giving in to fate. 

The Bangladesh Army honored Kaniz Fatima's indomitable zeal and ignored all obstacles and commissioned the 69 BMA long term course in 2013 with special consideration.

As part of the empowerment of women by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the first regular recruitment of women officers in the army started in the year 2000. 

In continuation of this, since 2015, various steps have been taken to accelerate the advancement of women in the country, including the addition of women soldiers, the issuance of unit commands to women officers, and the appointment of women officers to important positions in UN peacekeeping missions. 

The nation would respectfully remember this special event at the behest of the Chief of Army Staff, the release added.
