The fire at BM Container Depot at Sitakunda in Chattogram has not been brought under control yet. In this situation, a team of the Bangladesh
Army has joined the operation.
Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Ashraf Uddin said this
while visiting the spot on Sunday (June 5) at around 10:15 am.
He told reporters that 150 to 200 members of the army would
take part in the operation to bring the fire under control and prevent it from
spreading. An army team has already reached the spot and started work.
Lt. Col. Monira Sultana, commander of the Engineering Core 1
of Chattogram Cantonment at the scene, said the container depot contained
hydrogen peroxide. The fire has not yet been brought under control. Our
chemical experts are working with the fire service to control the fire.
The Chattogram Divisional Commissioner further said that it
was not yet known how the fire started. A 9-member committee will be formed to
investigate the incident. The committee will be asked to report within four to
five days.
He said the district administration would pay Tk 50,000 to
each family of those killed in the blast and fire. And each injured person will
be given 20 thousand rupees.
He also said that a help desk has been opened at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
