Garment workers are blocking roads again in the capital's
Mirpur to protest the rise in prices of essential commodities.
Hundreds of garment workers blocked the road at Mirpur Gol
Chattar No. 10, 13 (Ayurvedic College) and No. 14 (Kachukhet Milli Super
Market) around 8 am on Sunday (June 5).
Garment workers in the vicinity of Mirpur are joining the
movement in groups after 9 am on Sunday. Traffic is closed from Mirpur-10 to
13, 14, and Kachukhet.
Earlier on Saturday (June 4), workers blocked the road from
2.30 pm to 5 pm to protest the same demand.
The protesting workers said that although the prices of
various items including oil, sugar and pulses have gone up, their wages have
not gone up. Their demand is to increase their salaries if the prices of daily
necessities do not go down.
AC (Petrol) of Pallabi Police Station Mahbub said the
workers blocked the road after 8am on Sunday. I'm at the scene.
Meanwhile, around 10 am, several hundred workers from Mirpur
No. 10 attacked and vandalized several garments including Clemon Garments in
Mirpur No. 7 (East) area. Meanwhile, agitated workers vandalized two buses in
front of the Eastern Cinema Hall.
