An autopsy and DNA
test will be conducted on each of the victims of the horrific blast at the BM
container at Sitakunda in Chattogram. The body will then be handed over to
relatives, said Mohammad Shahidul Islam, assistant commissioner of Chawkbazar zone
of Chattogram city police.
He made the remarks
after inspecting the site of a fire at the BM Depot in Bhatiari area on Sunday
(June 5).
The assistant
commissioner said many of the families and relatives of the victims wanted to
take the body to the hospital after identification. However, autopsy and DNA
test will be done on all the victims. The bodies will be handed over to the
family and relatives following all the rules.
The death toll from
fires and explosions at the depot has risen to 42. Seven of them are fire
service personnel. The death toll is expected to rise further.
Meanwhile,
Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Ashraf Uddin said that the environment inside
the depot was not good. You see, after a while the container explodes. The
amount of washing is also high. However, there are no depot people, so we have
to hurry to work or handle the situation. It is not possible to control the
fire as there are chemical products.
He added that an
expert team of 150 to 200 people had come to bring the depot fire under
control. Hopefully they will take action. At the same time, we are taking care
of our environment, especially river pollution.
