The Foreign Secretary has sent a letter on behalf of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the 81 missions of Bangladesh located abroad,
urging them to take action to avert the crisis of the reserves.
The letter, signed by Foreign Secretary Masud bin Momen,
was sent to the missions on Wednesday (June 8th). The letter instructed to make
progress by June 15.
The letter instructed the mission heads to take some urgent
steps to keep the remittance flow in order.
The Foreign Secretary said in the letter that the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs and the Bangladesh Missions abroad have an opportunity to
play an important role in maintaining the flow of remittances and consolidating
the foreign exchange reserves. Missions can play a more effective role in
sending foreign remittances to non-resident Bangladeshis working in different
professions in different countries of the world. It is necessary to ensure good
professional treatment of expatriates by regularly inspecting the offices of
Scheduled Banks of Bangladesh in the areas under the jurisdiction of the
missions.
The letter also said that embassies need to collect data on
daily remittance remittances to the bank offices and compile a list of
Bangladeshi customers to encourage expatriates to send remittances legally over
the phone. Moreover, requests can also be made using the list of expatriate
Bangladeshis reserved in the mission. In this case, significant individuals
from the expatriate Bangladeshi community and the mission's Facebook, Twitter,
WhatsApp, website, etc., the ambassador or the head of the mission can be
broadcast video message requesting.
In the letter, the Foreign Secretary called upon the
Bangladesh missions abroad to take various steps to increase the flow of
remittances to Bangladesh in addition to the implementation of the above
guidelines.
