A barking deer have been rescued from
a pond in Habiganj district's Chunarughat Upazila. The locals later handed over
the deer to the forest department.
The deer was rescued from the Fatabil
area of the Upazila around 8 am on Thursday (June 16). The deer is an adult
and has bruises on various parts of its body.
Local journalist Abdur Razzak Raju
said a barking deer came to the locality from the Rema-Kalenga sanctuary on
Thursday morning. Later, some people chased the deer and it fell into the pond
of Cheganagar mosque. Makhan Mia, an expatriate from Saudi Arabia, and his wife,
schoolteacher Fazlun Nehar, rescued the deer. The deer was immediately reported
to the forest department for handover. Mazharul Islam, an officer of Satchhari
Forest Beat, reached the spot around 11 am.
Chunarughat Upazila Nirbahi Officer
(UNO) Siddharth Bhowmik said, "I thank those who rescued this wild animal.
The deer will be released in due course in coordination with the forest
department."
Forest Officer Mazharul Islam said it
was an adult deer. Age can be 7/8 years. The deer was hit in the face and legs
while running. After the proper treatment, the deer will be released into the
forest.
