Ferry operations on the Shimulia and Majhirkandi routes were suspended due to strong currents in the Padma river.
The services have been suspended since 9:30pm last night (June 19, 2022), reports our Munshiganj correspondent quoting Salauddin Ahmed, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) of Banglabazar-Majhirkandi Ghat.
He said the water in the Padma river has increased due to the monsoon season creating strong current in the river.
"Due to the strong current, the drivers of the ferries were facing difficulties to operate the ferries. Apart from this, the head-on collision between two ferries left one dead and several others injured at Jazira turning point last morning. To avoid further accidents, BIWTC took the decision to suspend ferry services on the routes," he added.
