Despite trying for several years, the two city corporations of the capital could not get the people of the capital accustomed to offering sacrifices at specific places. On the contrary, the money of the two city corporations has been wasted. So this time the city corporations' authorities are not walking that path.

The two city corporations are going back to the traditional method of removing sacrificial waste. North City Corporation is taking the field with a pilot project in a ward.

Usually on Eid-ul-Azha, the residents slaughter animals at any place of their choice. And this seems to have become the rule. At noon, the city authorities used to remove the waste. It takes a few days to clean up this densely populated city.

However, the two cities have taken an alternative decision. They plan to dump waste at specific places by 12 noon.

DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said, "We have seen that people do not like it that way. A lot of our money is wasted. The task we are undertaking this time is to hand over the animal waste to the waste collectors by 12 noon no matter where they are sacrificing."

Atiqul Islam, mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), said, "We used to make pandals in every ward. So this is the first time we have met with our councilors and we have taken ward number seven as a test case. There will be seven places in ward number seven of Mirpur. Everyone there has to make sacrifices. And there will be our supervision team."

Environmentalists say now is the time for modern sacrificial management to abandon traditional methods.

Environmentalist Iqbal Habib said that no one has the right to threaten the public health of the city for practicing a religion that puts cleanliness above all else and gives all responsibilities for proper waste management.

Every year, the residents of the two cities sacrifice about 12 lakh animals in the two cities of Dhaka.
