Trawler Sinks: 7 Cattle Dies Drowning in Dhaleshwari

A trawler with 27 cows sank the in Dhaleshwari river in Ghior upazila of Manikganj. The cattle-laden trawler sank behind Ghior Government College in Sadar upazila at around 11am on Thursday.

According to local fire service sources, 20 drowned cows were rescued alive and seven cows were found dead.

According to police, fire service, and local sources, some farmers of Daulatpur Upazila were going to Gabtali Pashurhat in the capital with 27 cows by boat this morning. On the way, the trawler sank after colliding with a pillar of the bridge over the Dhaleshwari river near Ghior Government College. Upon receiving the news, the local Ghior Upazila Fire Service, Ghior police and local people carried out the rescue operation.

Ghior police officer in charge (OC) said. Riaz Uddin Ahmed said the trawler lost control due to the current in the river and collided with the pillars of the bridge.

Upazila Fire Service Station Officer Mohammad Selim Hawlader said the trawler was placed on the river bank after the rescue operation. 20 cows in the trawler were rescued alive and 6 cows were found dead. Initially, however, the extent of the damage was not known.
