Dr Sabrina, 7 Others of JKG Jailed for 11 Years Each

JKG Healthcare Chairman Sabrina Arif Chowdhury, along with her husband Ariful Haque Chowdhury has been sentenced to 11 years imprisonment by the court for issuing fake Covid-19 test reports.   

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Tofazzal Hossain of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court announced this verdict at around 12 noon on Tuesday (July 19).

The other six accused-- JKG coordinator Saeed Chowdhury, former JKG official Humayun Kabir, his wife Tanzina Patwari, and Biplab Das, Shafiqul Islam, and Zebunnesa.  

Meanwhile, on the occasion of the announcement of the verdict, Sabrina, Ariful, and the other accused were brought from the jail to the court cell.  

Earlier, the court framed charges on August 20, 2020 against Sabrina, Ariful, and eight people in the Corona sample fraud case.

According to court sources, out of 40 witnesses in this case, 26 testified in court.

On June 23, 2020, Tejgaon police station-police arrested six people including JKG Healthcare CEO Ariful, employee Humayun Kabir, and his wife Tanzina Patwari on charges of collecting corona samples and issuing false reports.

The next day, on June 24, Humayun and Tanzina gave a confessional statement under Section 164 in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka.

The police arrested Sabrina on July 12 of the same year. He was a doctor at National Heart Institute and Hospital. After his arrest, he was suspended by the authorities.

On August 13, 2020, after investigating the case, the police submitted a charge sheet to the court against eight people including Sabrina.

It is said in the charge sheet that Sabrina and her husband Ariful played a major role in this fraud.
