BSF Director General (DG) Pankaj Kumar Singh termed all the Bangladeshis killed in firing by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on the Bangladesh-India border as criminals. According to him, all the dead people were involved in various crimes including drug dealing, and every shooting happened at night.

This was said by the Director General of BSF in response to a question raised by a journalist at a joint press conference at the end of the five-day border conference organized at the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) headquarters in Pilkhana on Thursday afternoon.

On what basis are the victims of border killings called criminals? In response to the question, the BSF director general said, "We cannot call anyone a criminal until any crime is proven in the judicial system. We talk to the Border Guard, Kolkata Police, and Dhaka Metropolitan Police. We share intelligence information. Mafias are involved in smuggling on the border of the two countries.

BSF director general said that there are good and bad people in both the border areas of the two countries. The criminals involved in cow smuggling, child and women trafficking illegally entered the border.

BSF Director General also said, "First we use non-lethal weapons. So that prevention is not fatal. 89 BSF personnel were seriously injured in the attack by criminals on the border." Referring to our relationship with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) now better than ever, he said, "We are jointly working to suppress border-centric crime, bring border killings to zero."

Every border conference, there is a discussion on stopping border killings. But the border killings are not stopping. Five people were killed on the border last June. In response to such a question, BSF Director General said, "We hear this question every year. BGB and BSF are very professional forces. But our relationship with Bangladesh is very different. Different from western countries. We constantly discuss at different levels how to stop border killings."
