Haji
Selim's leave-to-appeal against the 10-year prison sentence in the corruption
case has been recorded by the country's highest court, fixing his bail plea for
hearing on October 23.
The
three-judge Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique gave
this order on Monday (August 1).
During
the hearing, Haji Selim's lawyer asked for bail citing his physical illness.
Meanwhile, the lawyer of the ACC said that if he is sick, he should inform the
prison authorities.
Incidentally,
on April 25, the copy of Haji Selim's High Court sentence was sent to the lower
court. According to the High Court verdict, Haji Salim was asked to surrender
within 30 days from the date of receipt of the full copy of the High Court
verdict in the judicial court. Haji Salim was sent to jail after surrendering
to the judicial court on May 22, after being denied bail.
Earlier
on March 9, 2021, the High Court upheld the 10-year prison sentence given by
the trial court to Haji Mohammad Salim on the charge of acquiring illegal
