During a National Mourning Day discussion in Barguna, two factions of the Chhatra League clashed, police cars were vandalized, chases took place, and more than half a hundred people were injured. Police arrested two persons on the spot.

Today, Monday (August 15) around 11 am, the clash took place between two factions of leaders and activists who were present at the Mourning Day discussion meeting at the District Shilpakala Academy. At one stage of the clash, the BCL workers also vandalized the police car. Later the police resorted to baton charge to bring the situation under control. In this incident, more than half a hundred activists of both sides were injured. In this incident, the police arrested two activists of the Chhatra League.

Before this, when the new committee of the District Chhatra League was announced on July 24, there were frequent clashes between the new committee and the deposed leaders and supporters.

District Awami League President and Member of National Parliament of Barguna-1 Constituency Advocate Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu and Barguna Deputy Commissioner Habibur Rahman joined the discussion meeting on Monday around 11 am. At that time, district BCL president Rezaul Kabir Reza, general secretary Taushikur Rahman Imran, senior vice-president Sabuj Molla and Central BCL member Rishat Hasan Prince and their workers and supporters came to the district Shilpakala Academy.

The clash between the two groups of the Chhatra League started at the District Art Academy, but the district town was heated up instantly. A faction of the Chhatra League occupied Launch ghat area of Barguna town with local weapons.

A bunch of police from Barguna Sadar police station attacked the launch ghat and chased away the Chhatra League activists and recovered several local weapons. Police intensified patrolling in the city.
