Uttara Crash: Crane Operator, Helper among 9 Arrested

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have arrested nine people in connection with the incident that left five people dead and two others injured after a segment of a box girder of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project fell from a crane on a private car in Dhaka's Uttara on August 15, 2022.

Crane operator, helper, and security personnel of the contractor company engaged for security in the project are among the arrestees, Khandaker Al Moin, Rab's Legal and Media wing director, told the media tonight (August 17, 2022).

They were arrested from various parts of Dhaka, Gazipur, Sirajganj, and Bagerhat, the Rab official added.

Yesterday, Afran Mondal Babu, brother of two victims – Fahima Begum and Jharna Begum, filed a case with Uttara West Police Station against five people, including the concerned officials of China Gezhouba Group Co Ltd, the contractor firm, and the crane operator.
