1477
books have been scrubed from the book purchase list of the Ministry of Public
Administration. Basically, the Ministry of Public Administration took the
initiative to increase 'knowledge and learning habits' among government
officials. In view of this, an allocation of Tk 9.54 million has been allocated
for the purchase of books in the district and upazila. A list of 1 thousand 477
books has been sent along with it.
On
Monday (August 29), Senior Secretary of the Public Administration Ministry, KM
Ali Azam informed the journalists.
He said
that a committee has been formed in this regard. Ali Azam said that from the
next financial year, books based on the subject will be bought without the name
of the author.
In the
list of books given by the ministry with the aim of increasing knowledge and
literacy, there were 29 books by the additional secretary of the ministry of
public administration. There was a wide reaction among the conscious civil
society about this.
Not
only that, among the 1,477 books in the list, more than 100 books are written
by at least 25 senior government officials. Many of the books have the same
theme. The list includes many essential books on law, official topics, history
and philosophy. However, as the books of many important authors are not
included in this list, questions arise about the selection process.
According
to the related sources, no committee has been formed for this initiative of
buying books. Even the person in charge of books or library was not called in
the meeting.
It is
to be noted that in the list sent by the Ministry of Public Administration, it
can be seen that 29 books of an additional secretary have been included in the
list. Then discussion and criticism started on the matter through various media
including social media.
