Bangladesh Garment Workers' Solidarity held a protest rally demanding the formation of a wage
board and fixing the monthly salary at Tk 25,000. In this protest, they also
demanded the withdrawal of increased fuel prices.
Today Thursday
(September 1) at 10 am, the organization held a protest rally in front of the
National Press Club.
Tashlima Akhtar,
deputy head of the organization, said that the Prime Minister should look at
the suffering of the workers. How do they survive on this low salary? The
increase in fuel prices has increased the prices of daily commodities, but not
the wages of workers. Besides, most load-shedding occurs in the labor area. As a
result, the workers are spending their days in great difficulty.
General Secretary
Julhas Naim Babu said that the garment industry of the country is improving
with the labor of the workers. But workers are the most exploited and
oppressed. Stop this torture against them. Immediately make the salary of garment
workers Tk 25 thousand. This claim is a very reasonable claim at current market
prices.
During the protest
rally, an organization named Garments Sramik Adhikar Andolan took part in the protest
in solidarity with them.
Bablu Hossain, Ziadul
Islam, Shamim Hossain, Golam Mostafa, and others also spoke under the chairmanship
of Tashlima Akhtar, deputy head of the organization.
