During a clash with BNP activists
in Narayanganj, 30 students fell ill due to the smoke and panic when the tear shells shot by the police landed on a school ground. The incident took
place on the premises of Morgan Girls School and College in the city at around
11 o'clock on Thursday (September 1).
It is reported that a tear shell landed
on the school ground during the police-BNP clash. At that time, the students
panicked when smoke spread around the classroom. Some became unconscious. Later
they were rescued and admitted to Narayanganj Victoria General Hospital.
Abul Kalam Azad, Headmaster of
Morgan Girls School and College, confirmed the matter and said that even after
calling the police for help, there was no response.
The headmaster said that around
11 o'clock a tear shell suddenly landed on the school grounds. About 30 of our
students who were playing on the field got sick. Immediately after the incident, we called the Superintendent of Police. But he did not receive our phone calls.
Later the sick were sent to the hospital.
At Narayanganj Victoria General
Hospital, it can be seen on-site, that Umme Hani, an eighth-grade student of the school,
has been kept with oxygen support. She is gasping for breath. Her mother and
hospital nurses are trying to calm her down. She was then quickly moved from
the emergency room. Similarly, Ayesha, a class 10 student, has also been kept
with oxygen support. She was unconscious for a long time. After regaining
consciousness she improved somewhat.
Nazmul Hossain, a doctor in the
emergency department of Victoria Hospital, said that some school students were
admitted to our hospital after falling ill due to tear gas. They are kept under
