A jewellery shop owner was slaughtered allegedly by muggers at Patiya Upazila in Chattogram district on Tuesday night, reports media.
The victim was Dheeman Dhar, 40, son of Dulal Dhar, a resident of Banikpara village in the Upazila. He was the owner of Saudia Jewelers at Rahattarpool area in Chattogram city.
Locals said some muggers struck on Dheeman's throat with sharp machetes at Lorihora village around 11:15 pm at one stage of snatching valuables from him when he was returning home from his shop, leaving him dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, said Patiya Police Station inspector Rashedul Islam.
Legal steps in this regard are under process, the inspector added.
