4 Missing after Boat Capsises in Rajshahi's Padma River

Four people were missing as a boat capsized in the river Padma due to its strong current near Satbaria area in the city this morning.

However, the identity of the missing people couldn't be known immediately as divers from the local Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) have started rescue operations, reports BSS.

FSCD Station Officer Latiful Bari said they received the information around 7.50 am and rushed to the spot immediately.

He, however, said the missing people are yet to be traced till 10.30 am.

He also said a straw-laden boat with 20 people on board was coming to boat ghat at Mojaner More from the opposite direction of the river but it sank suddenly due to the strong current.

A number of 16 passengers managed to swim ashore, he added.

After this incident, in the same area, another grass-laden boat with three passengers on board also capsized while rescue operation for the first boat's missing people was going on.

But, FSCD and BGB personnel rescued the people instantly, Latiful said.
