The court has handed over Rahima
Begum, who is in hiding, to the custody of her daughter Aduri Khatun.
Rahima Begum gave a statement to
Judge Al Amin of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court-2 on Sunday (September 25)
around 6 pm.
At that time, Afruzzaman Tutul,
the plaintiff's lawyer, said that the victim gave a detailed description of her
abduction to the court. There she mentioned that those with whom she had a
dispute over land abducted her and took her to Chattogram. From there she came
to Faridpur. 4/5 of those named in the case are involved in the kidnapping.
After the deposition, Chief
Metropolitan Court-4 judge Sarwar Ahmed handed over Rahima Begum to the custody
of the plaintiff and her daughter Aduri Khatun.
Earlier, Moriom Mannan's mother
Rahima Begum was rescued alive by the police from Boalmari in Faridpur on
Saturday night. Since September 17, she was staying at Quddus Molla's house in
Boalmari, Faridpur. Quddus once worked in the Khulna jute mill and was a tenant in
Rahima Begum's house.
On August 27, Rahima Begum (52)
came down from her house to fetch water around 10:30 pm. As she did not return
home after hours, the children went there in search of their mother and found
her mother's used sandals, veil, and pitcher lying on the road. After searching
all possible places at night, they did not find the mother. After that, they
filed a general diary and later a case in Daulatpur police station mentioning some
names.
Police and RAB arrested 6 people
during the investigation of the case. The arrested are Khulna University of
Engineering and Technology (KUET) Chief Engineering Office Assistant Engineer
Md. Golam Kibria, second husband of the missing housewife Helal Hawladar,
Mohiuddin, Palash and Jewel, and Helal Sharif of Daulatpur Maheshwarpasha
Banikpara area.
Following the petition of the
plaintiff, on September 14, the court ordered the investigation of the case to
be sent to the PBI. After taking the necessary steps, PBI Khulna received the
documents on September 17. Now PBI Inspector Abdul Mannan is investigating this
case.
On September 22, Rahima's
daughter Moriom Akhter alias Moriom Mannan claimed that she had found her
mother's body. She stayed for the day at Phulpur in Mymensingh on 23 September
and had a busy time. At the same time, she identified the body of an
unidentified woman found there on September 10 as her mother. She also
consented to DNA profiling. An application for DNA profiling was scheduled to
be made in the Mymensingh court on September 25. In the meantime, the police
found Rahima Begum in a village of Faridpur on September 24.
