Missing Student's Body Retrieved from Halda River

The fire service recovered the body of Muhammad Anas (14), who went missing while picking football in the Halda River in Chattogram.

His body was recovered from the sluice gate area of the Halda River in Ward No. 1 of Garduara Union of Hathajari Upazila at around 8 am on Saturday.

Anas is the son of Muhammad Abu Taher of the Garduar area. He is an eighth-grade student at a madrasa in Hathazari Upazila.

Earlier last Thursday around 5:30 pm some teenagers were playing football on the bank of Halda River. Suddenly their football falls into the river. Then 3 people jumped into Halda River to fetch the ball. Anas drowned in the river even though the two managed to come back.

Station Officer of Hathajari Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Md Shahjahan said, "On receiving the news, a group of fire service and civil defense personnel conducted a rescue operation at the Halda River on Thursday and Friday. But there was no trace of Anas. This morning Anas' body was found 1 km away from the spot."
