A 70-year-old man, who was standing in a long queue for taking an Indian visa, died in a stampede in front of the Assistant High Commission of India, Chattogram here on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Ajit Kumar of Raozan upazila of the district.
Santosh Kumar Chakma, officer-in-charge of Khulshi Police Station, said Ajit stood up in a long queue in front of the Indian Visa Centre to apply for an Indian visa for medical purposes.
Suddenly, light showers lashed the area around 5:30 pm, forcing the people standing outside to get inside.
At one stage, Ajit fell on the ground and was crushed underfoot, leaving him injured.
Later, he was taken to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
A huge rush has been noticed in front of the Assistant High Commission of India, Chattogram for visa application for the last two days._UNB
