9 Held for Defying Hilsha Ban in Bhola

Fisheries Department in a drive arrested nine fishermen along with current nets, fishing boats and Hilsha in the River Tentulia in Sadar upazila here today for violating the government's ongoing 22-day ban on Hilsha catching.

Upazila Fisheries Officer Md Jamal Hossain said the fishermen would be produced before court. Their nets would be burnt and boats would be sold, he added.

The government imposed a ban on hilsha catching, selling, transporting and hoarding till October 28 to protect mother Hilsha.
