Bodies of four workers, who went missing after a dredger sank in the Bay of Bengal as Cyclone Sitrang hit the coastal districts, were recovered from the Bay off the coast of Mirsarai in Chattogram, reports media.

“The Fire Service diving teams recovered one body on Tuesday night and three more bodies from the sunken dredger on Wednesday morning,” confirmed Mirsarai Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Minhazur Rahman.

The deceased were identified as Imam Molla, Mahmud Molla, Zahid Bari, and Al Amin Fakir.

Imam Hossain Patwari, an officer of Mirsarai fire service station, said, “After resuming the rescue operation around 9:00 am today (Wednesday), three bodies have been recovered. Attempts are being made to rescue the four others who are still missing.”

The dredger, Saikat-2, capsized with nine workers in the Sandwip Channel off the Mirsarai coast because of strong wind and waves during Cyclone Sitrang.

Salam, the only one who managed to swim to safety, said his eight coworkers had been trapped inside the dredger.

The four workers who are still missing are Tarek Molla, Shaheen Molla, Basar Howlader, and Alam Sardar.
