Jamaat Applies under Different Names to Get Registered for EC

Some of the middle leaders of Jamaat-e-Islam have applied to the Election Commission to form a new political party called 'Bangladesh Development Party' to get registration. General Secretary of the new party in the Election Commission today Wednesday (October 26) for registration at noon. The application signed by Nizamul Haque was submitted.

It is known that the Bangladesh Development Party has been formed by individuals under the Jamaat-e-Islami, which registration has been canceled by the Election Commission. The responsibility of the party's general secretary. Nizamul Haque is a working council member of Jamaat-e-Islami's Dhaka Metropolitan South Branch. He is also known to be a former leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir.

Meanwhile, regarding the application for EC registration, it has been said on behalf of the new party that the application form has been submitted by fulfilling all the conditions of registration. All the information regarding EC conditions is given in the form of an attachment.

According to Jamaat sources, a decision was taken recently in a high-level meeting of Jamaat to apply for registration of the party under a new name. In that meeting, the Amir of the Jamaat Dr. Shafiqur Rahman gave instructions to bring out some 'unknown leaders' and bring them in charge of the new party.

He suggested that people who cannot be identified as Jamaat should be given responsibility in the new party. Sources claim that once the registration is done, the outsiders can be removed and the main leaders will be brought forth.

Incidentally, the High Court ruled on August 1, 2013, canceling the registration of Jamaat-e-Islami, a party opposed to Bangladesh's liberation war, and declaring it illegal. Five years later, on October 29, 2018, the Election Commission (EC) issued a notification canceling the party's registration.
