Draft of Public Service Commission Bill Goes to JS Standing Committee

The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) Bill 2022 was placed in Parliament on Monday incorporating punishment for involvement in any irregularities in any PSC examination.

State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain placed the Bill in the House and it was sent to the respective Parliamentary Standing Committee for further examination. The Committee was asked to submit its report within 60 days.

The maximum punishment for involvement in leaking the question paper of any PSC examination will be 10 years in jail or a financial penalty or both, according to a draft law.

According to article 8 of the draft law, those who are involved in leaking the question paper of any examination to be held under the Public Service Commission (PSC) might face the highest 10 years' jail, financial punishment, or both.

The Bill will replace the Bangladesh Public Service Commission Ordinance, 1977 in line with a judgment of the High Court over the laws of military regimes.

The maximum punishment for adopting unfair means in examination and engagement in answer sheet forgery would be two years’ jail or a financial penalty or both.

The penalty is the same for helping any examinees to take any unfair men in the exam hall, fake examinees, and tampering with any answer sheet.

The penalty is one year of jail or a financial penalty or both for creating obstacles in taking examinations and creating anarchy.

As per the Bill apart from the question paper leak crime, other crimes also be punished by the mobile court.

BNP MP Harunur Rashid opposed placing the bill in the House.
