Police have filed three cases against 2,000 Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders and activists, mentioning 473 names, in connection with the clash between BNP activists and police in the capital's Nayapaltan area on Wednesday (7 December).

Motijheel Division Additional Commissioner of Police (AC) Enamul Haque Mithu confirmed the case at around 12:30 pm on Thursday (November 8).

This police officer said that the case has been filed as the police plaintiff in the incident of keeping explosive material in the party office, attack on the police, and sabotage.

Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP convener Abdus Salam, Northern Committee convener Amanullah Aman, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon, Khaleda Zia's special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas and Central Publicity Secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie have been made accused in the case.

Earlier, the police clashed with the party's leaders and activists in front of the central office of the BNP at around 3 pm on Wednesday (December 7). 1 member of the BNP was killed and hundreds were injured in this incident.

After the clash, the police raided the central office of the BNP. From there, the party's central leader Amanullah Aman, Abdus Salam, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Khairul Kabir, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie, Shimul Biswas, former president of Chhatra Dal Abdul Quader Bhuiyan, and several hundred leaders and activists were arrested by the police.
