Court Dismisses Interim Bail Plea of Fakhrul, Abbas

A court here today dismissed pleas of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and party's Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas for interim bail in a case lodged for allegedly plotting to attack policemen and inciting violence against the law enforcers.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Asaduzzaman passed the order as counsels for both the BNP leaders filed the plea. Advocate Syed Joynul Abedin Mesbah moved the pleas before the court, reports BSS.

Earlier on December 15, the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain had dismissed the bail plea of Mirza Fakhrul and Mirza Abbas. On December 12, another court had turned down bail pleas of 224 leaders and activists of BNP, including Mirza Fakhrul and Mirza Abbas.

Separate teams of detective branch (DB) of police arrested Fakhrul and Abbas from their respective homes on December 8. Police produced the two before the court the next day, while the court sent them to jail, dismissing their bail pleas.

One person was killed and several others, including policemen, were injured in the clash in front of BNP central office in Nayapaltan on December 7. 

Police filed the case against 473 leaders and activists of BNP and another 1,500- 2,000 unnamed people, with capital's Paltan Police Station.
