The passengers are suffering due to heavy traffic congestion on the road from Mohakhali to Uttara in the capital.  Today Thursday (January 12) around 7:30 am, the queue of cars stuck in the traffic jam in Khilkhet area went beyond Kuril Bishwa Road area.

Several officers of the DMP traffic department working in Khilkhet and airport areas said that people are coming in droves to Tongi in Gazipur to join the Bishwa Ijtema, and for this the gridlock is happening.

Several eyewitnesses said many people were seen walking from Mohakhali to the airport to catch flights due to traffic jams. Basically, this traffic jam started at 2 am today. However, it intensified in the morning.

It was seen that at 8:30 am in the morning, Abdullahpur-bound vehicles were stuck in Khilkshet traffic jam. Same situation on the other direction too. Many people were seen standing on the pavement waiting for buses. Some take the risk of running in front of slow-moving vehicles to catch the bus to their destination.

At 11 o'clock in the capital's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area, traffic on the northbound lane from Mahakhali to the airport is practically at a standstill. Many passengers got down from the vehicles and started walking towards their destination.

By 11:00 AM, the traffic jam created from early morning beyond the airport area reached up to Kalshi on Mohakhali, Rampura and Mirpur routes.

Khilkhet Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Sahan Haque said that this traffic jam was caused due to Biswa Ijtema. Vehicles cannot move forward from Tongi area.
