30 Shops Gutted in Noakhali Fire

At least 30 shops were gutted in a fire at Chowmuhani Bazar in Begumganj upazila of the district early hours of today, reports BSS.

The fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop of the Bazar around 5.15am and soon engulfed the adjacent business establishments, acting director of Noakhali Fire Service Station Purna Chandra said.

Being informed, seven units of Chowmuhani, Maijdee, Kabirhat, Companiganj and Sonaimuri Fire Service and Civil Defense rushed to the spot and doused the blaze with the help of locals and affected businessmen after two hours of efforts, he added.

It is initially estimated to have caused a loss of Taka several crore, the affected businessmen claimed.
