Chattogram 8 By-Polls Continues

By-election polling has started in Chattogram-8 Boalkhali-Chandgaon constituencies. Voting started at 8 am on Thursday and will continue till 4 pm.

Five candidates, including one independent candidate, are contesting the by-election. The candidates are - Awami League's boat symbol candidate Noman Al Mahmud, Islamic Front Bangladesh's chair symbol candidate Syed Muhammad Farid Uddin, and Ramzan Ali are contesting as an independent candidate with Ektara symbol, National People's Party (NPP's) mango symbol candidate Kamal Pasha and Islamic Front's candle symbol candidate Sehab Uddin Muhammad Abdus Samad.

Chattogram Regional Election Officer and Returning Officer Mohammad Hasanuzzaman said that all preparations have been made for fair polling. So far, no untoward incident has occurred in the election, no complaints have been received. Police, Ansar, and RAB are deployed in the elections adequately, besides the law enforcement forces, the Judicial and Executive Magistrates are performing duties. 

According to election office sources, the total number of voters in Chattogram-8 Boalkhali-Chandgaon constituency is 5 lakhs 17 thousand 652 people. Among them, 2 lakhs 63 thousand 543 men, 2 lakhs 54 thousand 109 women, out of a total of 190 polling stations, 76 stations have been identified as important stations.
