President Mohammed Shahabuddin urged Switzerland to support Bangladesh's efforts to return Rohingyas to Myanmar on Monday.

When the recently appointed Swiss ambassador to Bangladesh, Reto Siegfried Renggli, presented him with his credentials at Bangabhaban, he reportedly remarked thus, according to the president's press secretary Joynal Abedin.

The president greeted the new ambassador and mentioned that Switzerland is making investments in Bangladesh that are considerably boosting Bangladesh's socio-economic development.

He mentioned the formal trip to Switzerland made by the nation's founder, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in 1972, claiming that Bangabandhu aspired to turn Bangladesh into the Eastern Switzerland.

Shahabuddin talked about Switzerland's assistance and collaboration with Bangladesh over the previous five years as a development partner. He declared that trade, investment, and economic partnership will henceforth dominate the bilateral relations between the two nations.

He also expressed the expectation that in the near future, trade, investment, and other facets of relations between the two nations will all achieve new heights.

The Swiss ambassador sought co-operation of the President in carrying out his assignments in Bangladesh.
