Nearly 650 ponds in the Kurigram district were devastated by floods brought on by upstream water and heavy rainfall.

130 metric tons of young fish from these ponds have been lost as a result. Approximately 600 fishermen have been impacted, according to Fisheries Office.

Before any safety measures were taken, numerous ponds had already flooded. Despite the efforts of some, the pressure of the water has caused the pond banks to break.

In his four-bigha pond, Jalil Mia, a fish farmer in the Bamondanga union of the Nageshwari upazila, claimed that "about 25 tons of fish were damaged in one night flood."

My family depends on the revenue from fish farming,'' Aslam Hossain of the upazila's Jayakumar area said. In a three-bigha pond this year, I raised roughly 20 maunds of fish. However, the deluge washed away every fish.

''A list of impacted fish farmers is being developed,'' said Kalipada Roy, the district fisheries officer for Kurigram. They are receiving a variety of forms of support.
