Eamon Gilmore, the Special Representative for Human Rights for the European Union, will visit Bangladesh the next week to talk about matters of shared interest.

According to a diplomatic source, he will probably be in Dhaka on July 24 at the invitation of the Bangladeshi administration.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gilmore will speak with concerned government officials about the Rohingya situation when he is in Dhaka and will go to the Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar.

Eamon will meet with government representatives and other interested parties in Dhaka to address human rights issues.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam recently traveled to Brussels and spoke with a number of people, including Gilmore in the first week of May.

Gilmore was invited to travel to Bangladesh by Shahriar.

The Special Representative for Human Rights' duties include increasing the efficiency and exposure of EU human rights policy.

The Special Representative's broad, adaptable mandate gives him or her the ability to respond to changing geopolitical conditions.

The European External Action Service, which works closely with the Special Representative and fully supports his efforts, is a vital partner.

From 2011 to July 2014, Gilmore served as Ireland's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade in a coalition administration that was successful in directing Ireland away from an IMF bailout and toward becoming one of the EU's fastest-growing economies.
