Bangladesh will commemorate the Holy Ashura on July 29 in order to mourn Hazrat Imam Hussain's (RA) martyrdom, as the country was unable to see the Muharram moon.

The decision was made on Tuesday during a meeting of the National Moon-Sighting Committee that was chaired by State Minister for Religious Affairs Faridul Haque Khan and held in the conference room of the Islamic Foundation at its Baitul Mukarram National Mosque office.

In order to defend the teachings of the Prophet, Hazrat Imam, the grandson of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), along with his family and 72 companions, embraced martyrdom on this day in the Hijri year of 61 in the desert of Karbala.

It's a holiday that day.

Shia Muslims will celebrate the day in Dhaka with Tazia processions.
