Police claimed unidentified criminals killed a Jubo League activist early on Friday in Gulbagh in Shahjahanpur in the capital.

Oliullah Rubel, 36, a local online businessman and supplier of eggs, was identified as the deceased.

He resided in a leased home on Joardar Lane with his wife and one child. Sheikh Nabiullah Khokon is the name of his father. In Shantibagh, they have a home of their own.

The incident took place around 1:45am on Friday on the road near his house on Gulbagh Joardar Lane.

Confirming the incident, Shahjahanpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Farukul Alam said: "He has sharp weapon injuries all over his body. The body has been kept in the morgue.”

“We are investigating the motive behind the murder. The killers will soon be brought to book,” OC Farukul said.

Rubel was returning to his house on Joardar Lane from Rajarbagh area at night, said his brother-in-law Mamun Ahmed Siddique at the hospital.

Near his home, four or five persons attacked him on the way and left him for dead with stab wounds from sharp objects.

The family members saved him and transported him to Islami Bank Hospital as soon as they learned of the situation. He was then transported to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) before being declared dead at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Additionally, he mentioned Rubel as the previous Shahjahanpur Thana Chhatra League office secretary. He had ties to the Jubo League, but he had no formal roles.
