Asaduzzaman Khan, the minister of the interior, warned today that if somebody inflicts misery on the public in the pretext of hosting political programs, they would be held accountable.

"It is normal that action would be taken against those who commit crimes, create public suffering and violate laws," he said while speaking at a programme marking the 40th founding anniversary of Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) in the city.

The home chief said that no programs by the BNP were being prevented by the police.

He said that the leaders and activists who have so far been detained are wanted in connection with or charged with vandalism.

According to Asaduzzaman, the man recently murdered in Lakshmipur was not a BNP activist. Following a conflict between two neighborhood organizations, he was slain.

Rab DG M Khurshid Hossain, CRAB President Mirza Mehedi Tamal and General Secretary Mamunur Rashid, among others, spoke in the programme.
